Tea
What do you guys think about the working dogs of New Zealand? What are their trials like? Thanks
mjk05
Totally different to ISDS and USBCHA trials: they have long head (cast, lift and draw), short head + yard (cast, lift and draw, assisted drive and pen, similar to Australian 3sheep trialling), and the huntaway trials (zigzag and straight hunts), where the dogs drive sheep away from the handler with their bark. The NZ Sheepdog Trial Association has some interesting information on its website: NZSDTA We've had huntaways here (just have one at the moment- he's part kelpie but looks/works like a huntaway) and there a few NZHDs trialling here- pretty much like border collies. One of our friends is an ex-NZ trialler and has some pretty handy collie dogs, which mainly go back to dogs she brought from NZ, with fairly recent UK breeding behind them.
