jdarling
I recently acquired a dog whose lines go back to dogs registered with the AWBC. In the research I've done, it seems that this is the Australian Working Border Collie registry, however, I am finding very little information on the organization. Does anyone know if it still exists? Have a link to it? Have any information about it? Have any dogs registered with them? Thanks. Jodi
Katelynn & Gang
Jodi, What does the dogs pedigree look like? I've heard of AWBC and I believe there is such a thing.

I have a McCallum bred dog that has some AWBC dogs in her pedigree- don't know much about the organization though.
jdarling
Katelynn, I don't have the pedigree in a format I can post handy. Here's one that similar. In fact, Tim, Crystal and Boss were the dogs that I was looking at that made me ask in the first place. (Disclaimer: I do not know this person or make any judgments on their kennel whatsoever. I am simply using the link for the pedigree purpose.) Pedigree with AWBC dogs in it. Jodi
Journey
I think they are still in business and from what I have heard they are not affiliated with ANKC and the ANKC will not register the AWBC. I think you can find some info on them from the Border Collie Pedigree group on yahoo. From what I understand they started with ISDS dogs and still import and allow ISDS imports into their registry. But then again I may be in a fog about it
Smokjbc
That Tim/Crystal cross is very common for McCallum bred (in fact, my Nellie's grandsire was bred almost identical to the McCallum's Ace dog on there) dogs. You may want to contact Laura Stimatze- I've talked to her before about these dogs and she was very helpful. Tim/Crystal were dogs Tony brought over, I believe. I got to see Crystal for sure, and I think Tim work at one of the first working clinics I ever went to over 14 years ago. I was an extreme novice at the time- my first dog was only 12 weeks old at the time- but I was very impressed and have seen several dogs from that cross that were REALLY good cow dogs. Maybe not great for sheepdog work though- tend to be plain working and very strong/aggressive but if you get a good handle on them, they'll move anything. mjk05
They used to be a purebred registry for working border collies in Australia, established because we don't really have a breed registry for collies (our working sheepdog association studbooks register all breeds/crossbreeds- just working dogs). It wasn't very well-known, and not well utilised outside of Queensland. The dogs registered were, as I understand it, either imported breeding or WSDA registered dogs whose pedigrees had been checked out as pure border collie (not easy to check up, as each of our states keeps their own studbooks). I was going to register a bunch of our dogs, but then the website disappeared and the email address I'd used was bouncing, so I wondered if they'd folded. I hope not, it was a great idea.
