Sue R
This sounds like AKC is joining ranks with the many so-called "registries" that have sprung up in recent years. I transported a rescue German Shepherd bitch one day. She had been used as a one-dog puppy-mill for a CKC (Continental Kennel Club, one of the myriad totally-irresponsible alternative "registries"). Her "papers" accompanied her. What useful information was on them? Her CKC "registration" number, and that her sire and dam were from some "source registry", with no registry name or numbers, breeder, etc. Basically, it was a license for some idiot to breed the stuffing out of this dog, claim her pups as "purebred, registered" pups, and not even have one iota of information about her background, source, lines, etc. AKC has been bleeding registration dollars to other, much less reputable "registries" for years now. I guess they are going to fight back for their share of the dollars generated off the lives of these poor animals that largely have no business producing offspring. Sadly, irresponsible breeding (deliberate or not) is not exlusive to any single registry or group of people.
