M.L.
Does anyone have any recommendations for professional nail clippers? I'm tired of the cheap ones breaking. The one I have now just frays and tears the dogs' nails when I trim them. The price doesn't matter as long as they work! Thanks in advance. ItsADogsLyfe
These are my favorite. They aren't expensive but they cut well. I've had my pair for about 10 years now and they still cut great!
ErinKate
Ditto--they are cheap enough that if they do break, you just toss them and get another pair. I too have had mine for many years. I might have paid $7 for them at Petsmart of Walmart.
Genie
I'll third Joan's recommendation (or another of the same style). Avoid the guilloutine-style clippers. The blade bends outward on tough nails and can tear or splinter nails like you've experienced.
diane allen
Just for everyone's info....I have always used a Dremel tool to grind down nails. My two older dogs don't mind it at all, but the youngster is having trouble adjusting to it (I did three toes on one back foot yesterday with NO reaction - major party!!!). So, being terribly paranoid about cutting the quick on all those black nails, I sprung (sprang?) for the new Quick Clip (I know that's not the right name...OH! It's Quik Finder!). It has a laser beam which will detect if you're about to cut the quick - little light comes on. The light works, though it seems slow to me; but the cutting blade is cr*p!! It says to use only on dogs up to 40 pounds - obviously big heavy nails won't get cut - but my slender boy's nails were shredded with the blade. Back to desensitizing with the Dremel for us.... diane
M.L.
What about this thing called Pedi Paws? Anybody ever use it?
ClickMeBC
I much prefer the guillotine style clippers, actually. I'm careful to replace them as soon as they dull, but I find them a lot easier to use and avoid the quick with. I buy the Bamboo brand guillotine style nail trimmers - they work very well and stay sharp for some time.
