RedBCAussie
Hi, I have been on this board for a nearly a year (i think), but I have only posted a few times. I usually just read and look at the great pics My BC is nearly 4, we've had him since his a pup and he is a great dog.. of course. While living with my parents his been kept as an outside dog because there dog is. Now I have my own rental place and I want him to be come inside. He does come inside at my old place and likes it but never sleeps inside just follows me around when no one else is home. At our new place I would like him to sleep inside.. in my room. Any advice? He is currently at my parents now and arrives here tomorrow! I am really excited. Unfortunatly he won't be living with me full time, he will be at my parents house as well.. sharing. His a really happy dog and I don't think he would mind if he slept inside while at mine and then slept outside with our other lovely bc when at my parents. Advice? Also, i would love any advice on having an inside dog. Such as.. how often do you vacum? (i am thinking every day!), Sorry this post is a bit rushed.. hope it makes sense. Thanks
Barb Scott
I used to take care of mt friend's BC when she was out of town. At her house, Snap was not allowed on the furniture. At my house, he was. Never seemed to be an issue at either house! Barb S
somewhereinusa
I wouldn't think that housetraining would be a big issue with a 4 year old that has been in the house, I would however question the dog's comfort when going from living inside at one place and outside at the other. Especially if you have cold winters and very hot summers(with air conditioning) where you live.
Laurae
Also, i would love any advice on having an inside dog. Such as.. how often do you vacum? (i am thinking every day!), Every day? Uh, I guess it depends on how much a clean carpet matters to you, or maybe on how clean is clean?
hsnrs
Tried bringing our intact male inside one night. It was too hot for him and he isn't house trained. He is a Aussie so he will remain a outside dog (he sheds too much also). Narita
Shetlander
I've never had an outside dog, so no experience with turning them into an inside dog. But if he can be inside with you during the day, he might be fine with sleeping inside too. As far as vacuuming... I aim for once a week. Keeping the dog well groomed helps a lot with shedding. I brush 3 X a week. I try to bathe every couple of months. When the shedding starts to increase, I also like to give a bath to loosen up the fur. Quinn is the worst of my three for shedding but there aren't any clumps of fur and I've actually passed the one week mark for vacuuming as I type this. I should get on that, but all the dogs got bathed last weekend and it does makes difference.
MaggieDog
Just finished my weekly vacuuming myself. I live in a 750 sq ft apartment, about 3/4 carpet, 1/4 tile with 2 medium sized, medium to short coated dogs. Bringing and outdoor dog in is generally not too hard as they enjoy the company and companionship. Housetraining is often faster both because they are older, but also because they've only ever eliminated outdoors on dirt or grass and generally prefer it. You'll likely still need to supervise closely to ensure that the dog doesn't have accidents, but my friends who have brought outdoor dogs in have never had any major problems assuming the dog is an adult and not a wild adolescent or pup. Do consider the contrast in temps between your place and outdoors so that your dog isn't unduly stressed by a major change.I would never just drop a dog used to AC set at 72 into a yard with temps in the 90s and high humidity for days, same with a heated house set at 78 vs. a yard at 30 degrees - it's just a huge change for a dog's system to adjust to instantly.
