JoeA
hello everyone, I am just wondering when my BC puppy is going to grow out of peeing when excited. She is 100% housetrained since she was about 3 months old, she is 5 months old now. She doesnt pee when see me and my wife, but when she sees our friends she gets excited and she pees almost every single time. I can't wait untill she grows out of it. i tell people to don't give her attention when they first see her, and i take her to the bathroom right before someone come over, but she still do it. any tips would be appreciated Joe
MaryP
My excited pee-er is 3 years old and still pees when excited. He's not as bad as when he was younger, but he'll still do it if he's really excited. Mostly, it happens if the person greeting him is over-animated, over-excited, or talking in a high voice to him. If they don't act too excited, he's usually OK. If I suspect that he might pee, then I always let them greet him outside and tell them to watch their feet so he doesn't pee on them. But, he has a much worse habit that he developed as he got older that I could really do without. If he is startled really bad, he'll blow out his anal glands. Lovely. JaderBug
Jade is coming up on nine months now and still does it- she won't do it for me or the boyfriend, but everone else. We just had to be careful about people coming over- if someone was coming in the front door, we have to shove Jade out the back door and get her to go potty before we let her in to see visitors. Unfortunately she doesn't think emptying her bladder with one squat is necessary, so we generally make her squat at least 3 times before she's let back in, which can be really hard to make her do if she knows there's different people inside. It all pretty much just comes down to management of the situation, but I'm still waiting for her to stop as well I know it's frustrating... be patient!! Guest SweetJordan
My first dog did this. I tried everything. Alot of people said "oh that's easy to fix." But you know it wasn't in my case, nothing worked. When people came over we would usually have her go outside then have the person greet her and then let her pee all over outside and then let her back in. The ignoring thing never worked for me, but then again nothing did. I talked to all kinds of people, read all kinds of books etc. I've actually seen where people actually gave up the dog because they got sick of it. I think that's mean, it wasn't a big deal. I mean I tried to fix it, but in the end when nothing worked I figured 'oh well' it's really not that big of a deal. I'd easily take another dog who never outgrew it. That's just my experience, your dog will probably outgrow it. But in the mean time or if they don't you just have to learn how to manage it. Really the best thing is to just let people greet her outside for now. JMO.
bc4ever
Well, we had the opposite problem with Scooter. He was an excited pooper!! Actually, I'd rather have that problem. Easier than urine to clean up! He outgrew it around a year old, and it didn't happen all the time, thank God!
BCjetta
Our aussie grew out of the excited peeing when he was somewhere between 1-2 years old. I don't think he'd do it anymore but we do make sure he pees if he hasn't been out for a long time.
Anda
Mine never did the excitment peeing. He did pee once when Chris suddently barked at him But he was just 3 months old - Ouzo, not Chris
Shetlander
Quinn was never terrible about excited peeing but there was enough dribbling that I took precautions. I tried to have him empty out before the excitement was due to start and I also usually had the new people/dogs meet him outside. I also tried to keep the excitement level down, for what that was worth, since he could be excited enough for 20 dogs and people back then. He outgrew it well before a year but I don't remember exactly when.
MaryP
But he was just 3 months old - Ouzo, not Chris Sometimes my bf acts like he is 3 months old around the dogs. It's embarrassing, really.
Ruger's Dad
When I first picked Ruger up he peed on me. It was love at his first accident. I think he was between 6 and 9 months when he stopped. Nowadays he pees on every spot in our yard where one of the other dogs has gone. Simply amazing bladder control. Kind of like a faucet. SoloRiver
Jett probably stopped doing it a couple of months ago. She is nine months old now. Jett would only pee for two people she really, really likes -- my fiance, and one of the grad students in my lab. Actually, she no longer pees for my fiance except in exceptional circumstances, but I am not sure the grad student, who she LOVES, would not still make her pee. Since the problem is/was associated with only two people it never really bothered me. I think it falls into the "don't sweat it, he'll outgrow it" category. hsnrs
Our Aussie female did this for quite some time. If we ignored her it got better with time. Just pretend it is no big deal and ignore her. N

twmoose82
Moose is 2 years old and still peeing. Just last night he shot my shoe, sometimes it is like a squirt gun (short quick spurts).
