DTrain
If I may make a suggestion. Elvin Kopp has a series of 3 DVD's on training working BC's. They take you through training stages from puppy to old pup, they are excellent and so is his training method. Elvin is in Westerose Alberta, his email is egkopp @ telusplanet. net. I haven’t seen that series yet. I did get a copy of Ben Mean’s, The perfect stock dog. I would be interested in any reviews of that video. It is my first video and found it very informative. I am using the methods outlined in the video at this time. I have also found a trainer to help me out with my first dog. I am having some “boldness” issues with my current dog so I feel my training is somewhat staggered as we try to work through that issue. I am thinking of getting the L.R. Alexander video that shows him working two dogs. Has anyone seen that video and what did you think?
DTrain
You would need to search the web for reviews of Elvin's DVD's. I know Elvin so I trusted his work would be excellent and it is. I like his training method and his approach to his dogs and of course he has proven to be very successful. I also worked with another trainer which was very helpful. He was able to help me considerably. I very seldom work two dogs although in my goose work I find it handy. I do have some issues with keeping up with two dogs especially when they are doing a different job but that is me. I have three dogs and they all work at a different pace so it can be tricky to keep up.
NRhodes
Hey Karl, Ben Means is a good video and his method is good for certain types of dogs (but not all), same deal with Elvin's, great for certain types of dogs but harder to do with others. I would, however, suggest you pick up Elvin's video so you can also see a different way to train. The more different things you learn the better. I find I take tidbits of techniques from a variety of sources and put it together to fit my personality type/skill level/and the dog I'm working. I'm not familiar with L.R.'s video.
