DeltaBluez Tess
It was a BAD week last week... Ever have one of those days you wish you could go back to bed and wake up and hope it is better...well, we had last week, which we wanted to start all over again!! First: On Tuesday a Wolf Hybrid got into my leased field and was killing sheep. I happened to be driving by and saw it killing a sheep so I leaped out of the car and yelled at it. It ran back to the owner's trailer which was about 50 yards away. The lady was asleep and she denied it all....hard to watch your dog when you are asleep and the dog is loose but I pointed out the blood on the chin and she said "OH" then proceeded to give me a song and dance that a cougar had taught her dog to kill as she never did that before. Her dog ran my horse and sheep through the back gate into a major highway....we managed to get the horses back...all said and done, 5 dead ewes, one is wounded but will survive and one aborted ewe lamb from the ewe that later died and busted fence and gate and when Jeff sent Tess to get the runaways she leaped over the busted gate and gashed her side wide open so a trip to ER...according to AC, Allison is at fault for dead sheep, gates, and injury to Tess (as a result of her wolf mix causing the events)...total damages is over $1500 and she packed up her camper, etc and left with no forwarding address...she had told me that she was going to give me a saddle and clippers for the damage but then told Jeff that her dog never did it but 2 white guys in a white pickup drove into my pasture and killed the sheep and tossed them into the ditch. We found one dead ewe on Tuesday morning in the ditch, 2 wounded ewes (one that later died after aborting her lamb) and 3 that are missing (counting them as dead) ....horses were ok and they came to Jeff when they called..the locals had blocked the highway so Jeff could the livestock back. AC is trying to find Allison, as a wolf mix is illegal and she had fled the scene even though they posted a notice for her to contact them So I guess I will sue her for damages in small claims court and hope to get a lien on her truck and stock trailer. Sad, part is Tess has tons of stitches and wearing a cone head and now comes to "Yo, cone head" So fast forward to Friday, I had packed the truck to take Ray to a cow dog trial and wanted to get some last minute training on him. I was riding my horse and working Ray when the horse spooked at something in the brush and spun left, then spun right and then reared and her head hit my head. I blacked out and rode her back to the barn while she still was spinning, if I fell I would have gotten trampled....and I was bareback. Jeff took me to ER, 6 hrs later, x-rays and numerous CAT scans....no brain injury, fracture on cheek and upper jaw , laceration on cheek, nice concussion, upper jaw hurts, whiplash, black eye and most of my cheek. So needless to say, I skipped that trial and stayed in bed for most of a week.....on major meds which has helped with the pain....today I feel semi-human....went to ENT Dr and he said, still have concussion (light/noise sensitive), nice fracture in cheek area (possible surgery), facial paralysis of cheek and upper lip (hope it will not be permanent-- I have some feeling so that is good sign), removed stitches, no sinus infection due to me taking anti-biotics and no swelling in brain. recovery is 6-8 weeks and I hope my paralysis goes away....since I have a hard time talking and no movement of my left upper lip. People from work brought my laptop home so I could work from here...slow work, mind you..... So my students are taking the pups for a week or two to help me out while I take my vicoden naps.....the husband has been really good about all of this....and if my typing sucks at least you know why now!! So, today I feel almost human and went and saw a new borne lamb and this week is far better.....I think we got our bad luck ju-ju for a while and may the rest of the year be better Diane
juliepoudrier
Oh my, what a horrible week for you. I hope everything improves from here (well, it can't get much worse, I don't reckon) and you now make a quick recoviery with no lasting ill effects. How awful to have to watch your sheep being killed and then have the dog's owner skip on you. I do hope you get your day in court and can at least get compensation for the dead and injured sheep, although no amount of money can really make up for having to watch your sheep be maimed and killed and not be able to do anything about it. I'll keep you and Tess in my thoughts and prayers.... J.
Smokjbc
Thought you kinda disappeared this week- hope you are on the road to recovery and really feel for you about those ewes. How horrible! Hope you find the person responsible.
kelpiegirl
Wow. Rest and get well. Take your time- and next time wear a hockey mask when riding... just kidding. I hope you get ahold of that woman. What a creep. I hope Tess is healing well too.
DeltaBluez Tess
I can't remember if I posted that Shiro went down hard the week before and we thought we were going to lose her too...(she just turned 15) her hindend collapsed and she just flopped around, rushed her to vet and diagnosis was...huge bone spurs on backbone and inflammed/injured nerves where it comes out of her spinal column near the tailbone so she went on Tramadol (?) and metacam and is now walking about...I think I posted about it in my blog, so needless to say, poor Jeff in a space of a week has had the three girls in his life injured and bless his heart, he is doing well in nursing all of us to recovery Tess and I make a matched pair in bed, both of us have stictches...and Shiro just walking about in a opium state (like me on my vicoden).....and Jeff is doing all the farm duties. But we are all getting better and this shows that I married well..... diane
airbear
Oh Diane! What a week! Hope that you and Tess and Shiro are all cuddled up together, recovering nicely. Perhaps Nan would like to come to Scio with us? And then live for a bit in Vancouver? Take care, buddy!
ShoresDog
Wow, what a week! May there never ever be one like it again. That must have been just awful, seeing the wolf hybrid killing your sheep. Feel better soon, everyone up there!
Liz P
Sorry to hear about all that happening. Maybe you shoul buy a ticket since your luck is bound to chage How did this person come to be staying near your field anyway? How did you know it was a wolf hybrid and not a dog bred to look wolfish? DeltaBluez Tess
I actaully got up and worked dogs today...was it ever nice BUT my stamina is GONE...as well as 12 plus lbs of me!!! Thank goodness the dogs were good!! Eye is almost normal, cheek still swollen, got a dent in cheek, jaw still hurting, can talk but hard sometimes, concussion all gone (I think) and I feel a lot better...not 100% for 6-8 weeks...but no pain pills and I am hungry. Feels good to be among the living. Tess is annoyed that we are not taking 18 hr naps now!! I am going to a trial next weekend but can't whistle so this should be interesting Diane
DeltaBluez Tess
Update: Yes, she told a bunch of us that Pasha was a wolf-hybrid. She has fled the scene but I am going to small claim court to see what I can recover from her. My eye/cheek is no longer black and swollen. I do have a scar and hard knot underneath it (cheekbone area). My jaw fracture no longer hurt like he** and I can eat (well I can't chew on the left side but eating normal food - aside from food like corn on the cob, sandwiches etc) My mom came over and made me tons of sushi and I was quite plumb by the end of the evening!! I love my mom!! I do see that memory sometimes fades and I still have speech issues and if I work more than 4 hrs, I get a bad migraine. But the Dr said it will get better and if it hasn't improved by week 8, then I will call her to see about going to a specialist. (sppech issue, the word gets stuck in brain and I can not saythe word, stutter or just say uhhh, uhhh...it was noticable at the trial) I went to trial last weekend at Sue/George MacDonals and they let me stay at their house and took care of me. The dogs ran well, Tess got a 91 on Sat...one would think with a score like that she would have won, but her daughter "Kate" got first with 106 out of 110 and then her son, "Pete" got 98. Tess placed 8th. Lucy got 3rd in PN. Nan was too much for my brain to wrap around...she was the first run!! On Sunday, Tess and Nan did good run and didn't get the chute but placed 9th and 10th. I could only use my whistle for about 10 times then my jaw started to hurt and then I used my voice. On Sunday, I woke to a helluva migranie that stayed with me all day and I was happy on how we did. People were very nice at the trial and the trial hosts made sure that I was well taken care of...I love the sheepdog community and their support. All in all, I had a blast at the trial and it was good to be among the living again. Tess got her sticthes out and was laid up for 2 weeks but she ran hard and fast and was super pushy on the sheep. Nan was her usual bullet self but really worked well with me. Lucy was kind to the sheep and I had not run her for 8 months and she got 3rd...very happy considering that!! Life is almost back to normal.....Jeff is doing the hard work and I do what I can. I see improvements each day The pups, Rainey, Kael and Anson all greeted me with mush gusto tonight---they sure missed me. We are letting Rainey in the hosue again and she promptly hurled herself on my lap tonight when we were watchign TV...... Nice to be back among the living!!
