nancy
I know this has been settled, but I can't find the thread in the archives. I try +picnic+NC or the reverse and get the tread about the PNW one. I'm sure it's going to be at Rebecca's again. And I'm pretty sure it's in June. But the date and time elude me. Remember, I'm not getting old, I'm getting cute.
BC-Liz
wait wait wait...there's a BC picnic in North Carolina? I haven't heard of this before....info please!!! :-)
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Well then, glad we started a new thread. I forgot to write it down, dadgummit. Anyone? I promise to write it down this time. At the moment I'm prepping for Joey's big Birthday bash on Saturday, so any discussion that goes ignored on the host family's part today is not because we aren't interested in the outcome. I'm supplying the place, sheep, and I can't have it the weekend of the 14th. And the first weekend in June was really bad for someone else. We hadn't nailed down details about who was bringing what (except I think Laura offered to bring something?).
Dixie_Girl
Yeah, more info! It's quite possible that even with fuel prices up, I just might make it this year!
BC-Liz
Where is it going to be held? I'll absolutely bring something if that means refreshments or food of some sort. and of course my dogs. Can't offer much else though. Not that my schedule would be the deciding factor but I'm booked the next three weekends.
Carson Crazies
I believe we settled on the 21st (of June). I haven't yet had my divine inspiration as to what to bring, but I'll get it before then.
BC-Liz
How many people typically show? What kind of bringings should be brought? And I guess it's being held at Semora NC? Sorry for all the questions. And I hope I'm not being intrusive.
2 Devils
I was so hoping you would have picked a different day but alas I will not be able to come down from VA I will be playing flyball in PA that weekend. Grrrr... I really wanted to come and bring Tempe. I think it would have been good for her...
Jack & Co.
Here's the original discussion: http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.php?showtopic=18655 It was a couple of pages back in Coffee Break.
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Mapquest 54 Scott Road Semora NC. All friends are welcome - it's basically an open farm day. Well, we're "open" any day we're here, but this is a meetup day. Looks like we'll still have sheep to shear by then - look out! The shearer I was hoping to get down won't be available for a few weeks, apparently, so we'll be tackling them by hand, one at a time. We're starting with the "working" sheep, first. Lenajo
I may be up that way that weekend...want to make it an AL/NC get-together? My shearing is lousy, but I'm an excellent armchair shearer
nancy
Wonderful! I was afraid it was the 14th. I think my daughter, granddaughter, step-granddaughter, and dog will be doing the Komen Race for the Cure on the 14th. We're a team. Purple shirts with pink lettering (I made them) that say Maiden Mother Crone And Fergie has a ribbon on her leash that says bITch because she's spayed. Shall I bring Spinach-Ricotta Pie again? I do make other food.
Rebecca, Irena Farm
NC has really always referred to the location rather than the residence of the attendees! The first year we had Michelle from Texas, the next Kerry from New York, and last year our Long Road Award went to Sally from the SC coast. Can you make Spinach-Ricotta AND something else to prove you can make food? How about one of those wonderful breads? I'm going to make pimento cheese - I refuse to do anything harder - I may actually grate a block of cheese for y'all though rather than getting a package of pregrated like I just did for my mom and mom-in-law's lunch tomorrow. Don't you feel special? I just remembered something that will slow up the shearing. oops. We have to rebuild the round pen. Double oops. Ooooooh, Laura, how's those post pounding muscles? You know I you, right?
painted_ponies
Argh. I wish I could come this year. I really need someone to show me about shearing. And then of course there is the wonderful food, and the charming company. But this year, I am starting my own law firm in June. sorry, guess I'm a little excited. But fueling up the F150 for Semora would set me back a couple hundred bucks at a time when I really need to be watching my pennies. Oh, and that cabin on the lake where I stayed last year? It belongs to one of the partners in the firm I'm leaving. Might be just as well. Wine. Novice sheep-shearing. Scot could come home bald! Nancy - you made me LOL. I wish I could be there to see your team off.
Carson and Donna
Count me in on the repairing of the round pin, making a new pin and while were at it we might as well make some new fetch panels. Don't know what the sheep will look like if I help out with the shearing but what the heck, I can help out there also Carson
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Carson, we found our old fetch panels, so we are set there! Wait until you see them, you will laugh, but they are much more effective than the feed pans. We will be able to play with the pen next time, too. We'd truly appreciate round pen help whenever. I'm going to drag Patrick out there tomorrow and we'll mark out the boundaries, and figure out what materials we need. the ducklings will be ten weeks old, fit, and sturdy enough to allow for some light duck herding too, if anyone wants to try their paw at that. No never-been-on-stock dogs, please, trained dogs only.
PSmitty
Congrats, Sally! Ok, I know I was tempted to come last year, and this year is even worse. But I've got a summer full of commitments, and those, along with the gas prices, makes me a no show. Again! One day, I swear...
AK dog doc
This always sounds like fun.... maybe someday....!
juliepoudrier
Okay, I may have another monkey wrench, but it certainly won't stop the picnic. Roy is planning to have a cattle trial in June, and I am committed to going. I know it won't be the first weekend in June, but that's all I know. And I suppose it may not happen at all. But if it does, I'll be at Roy's. I'm sure the running order can be worked so that I can come down later in the afternoon, so I'll play it by ear. In the meantime, I'll ask Roy and Debbie (well, once they're back from the cattle finals) if they have a firm date. Becca, If you need round pen building help or shearing help, I can probably do that on one of the weekends I'm not committed to something else (i.e., Dr. Ben's and the Exec. Exchange for work), or even a weekday evening now that it's light till 8:30 or so. Heck, I did such a good job with that one sheep a couple of years ago that I'm just amazed you didn't call me first for shearing help! LOL! Sally, Congratulations!!!! (Oh, and if you start doing well and need a staff writer, just let me know. I wouldn't mind starting a sheep enclave in SC!) If you can find the way clear to spend the gas money, you're more than welcome to stay here. I'd even be sure to have coffee available. AKDD, If you come down later in the year, I'm sure we can gather up a group of NC folks for a fun day of sheep working and eating. J. AK dog doc
Hmm, I wonder how much wine I can get into my luggage if I pretend it's not a liquid.... They'll believe me at the NTSB, right? What if I write myself a doctor's note, and claim I need a 6-pack of wine for medicinal purposes?
Carson Crazies
I just remembered something that will slow up the shearing. oops. We have to rebuild the round pen. Double oops. Ooooooh, Laura, how's those post pounding muscles? You know I you, right? lol Post pounding muscles are in fairly good shape, actually! Just let me know when! Other than Dr. Ben's I can make myself available pretty much whenever the next few weekends - and could possibly harangue a week night if I have enough notice. Actually, if I have a week's advance notice I could probably just take a day off. After all... all this vacation has to be used or I lose it. juliepoudrier
AKDD, If you can manage to sneak the wine in, we'll convene a whole 'nother picnic and wine tasting in your honor! J.
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Fer sure AKDD! I would even forgo my usual teetotaler status for a small taste! I'll wrangle some cheeses, though you'd have to tell me what would go best other than my usual favs (Double Gloucester is actually a food group and has no requirement to "go with" anything). I'm going to drag Patrick out to the round pen site and we'll discuss what needs to be done and what materials we still need. When we get those together I'll start calling for help - thanks for all the offers! Julie, since I hand sheared some of the wooliest girls last year, no one can tell which one was that first one we did! But, I still know who she is since she's the belled ewe. lol I invested in a nice pair of hand shears and a stone and they should come by the end of the week. Cool weather this week, thank goodness. I seem to have gone from very light wool to very wooly sheep with the use of the BFL, so it's time to get re-acquainted with the joys of shearing. :/
painted_ponies
Thanks, Paula and Julie, for the congratulations. And thank you, Julie, very much for the invitation - I'd love to come crash at your place with my little kitty bedfellows again , but I'm afraid to spend the gas money. I'm trying really hard not to go into debt, or at least not any more than I can possibly help, so I'm counting every penny right now. So somebody else will have to promise to share their wine with Pip this year!
