Stray BC

Recommended Posts

I was outside this morning before I took Black Jack to the park. I saw a BC down the road a ways trying to herd some deer. (he had them in a circle already :D ) I thought someone probably just brought him while they were visiting over the weekend. But after asking all of the neigbours no one knew whos it was. One neigbour even thought it was my BC, even though he met him at the front door to say hi. After I went to the park I came back and saw him out in an empty lot. He was laying down behind a bush. When I went over to get him he started to walk off. He didn't run, but wasn't sure about me either. He just seems kind of lost. After a while I had two other people looking for him too :D But we quit when it got dark so he didn't run off to far. I put food out for him tonight but I'm worried that he won't find it. I sure hope he does. He's the most beautiful split faced BC. Do you guys have any ideas on how to catch him?

I guess I'm a BC magnet right now

Be careful! You'll give hunters ideas, and the breed will become a hunting breed! :D

Food is my only thought for catching this dog. I had a gorgeous loose husky visiting a couple weeks ago, and she wouldn't come near me even for treats. But my neighbor's beagle/JRT mix got out to play with her, and she willingly followed the other dog into my back yard. So maybe use BJ as a magnet?

I guess it depends on how wild he is. You might try going out by yourself with something really yummy and stinky, like sardines, and see if you can bait him into coming close enough to put a slip lead over his head. If he won't do that, then you'll probably have to set a humane trap.

I found out today that it's our neigbours new dog. He got away from her when they first got home (he saw the deer) and then couldn't find his way home. She was at work at the time so she didn't know he was missing. My thought was 1. why was he running free when he first got home? and 2. why wasn't he on a leash or something? When I got Black Jack he wasn't let of of a leash for two weeks! Maybe a bit over the top, but I knew he wouldn't run away after that. Anyway, he's safe at home tonight. So I can sleep better tonight.
