WyoBC
This morning we finally decitied to have Sage put to sleep. Over the past two days she had gotten a lot worse. She completely lost her sight, and was starting to have trouble breathing. She never gave up though. Through all of the shots, blood tests, problems eating, not feeling good, and losing her sight. Up until this morning she was still wagging her tail. Even though she couldn't stand up anymore. We will miss her so much. She had been going down hill for a few months. We knew it was coming but I don't think we really expected it to happen so sudden. She quietly passed in my arms, laying in her pad that she loved so much. We will miss you Sage. You were a the best companion and friend. You were always there for us. You better be waiting for us over there. Run free little girl. Rest in peace Pooh Bear

mbc1963
So sorry to hear this! Take comfort in the fact that she was wagging her tail in her last hours - you had the wisdom to know when to let her go. Mary

Kenbo
Nothing will compare the love you have for an animal. I have cried many times for them after their death. I hope God in his wisdom will let us share an eternity with them and I think he will. You sound very very wise to let her go. Sometimes, it just time, and you will know, and you did. That's pure love. I can't imigane the pain you have now, but someday I will too. I hope I'm as strong as you. Your testament brought tears to my eyes. Dixie_Girl
AJ, I am so sorry for your loss. I would imagine that, for you, you have few memories that don't include Sage! Take time to mourn, know you did the right thing, at the right time, hang on to her memories, and celebrate her life. Take care, kiddo. Ceredwyn
It's so hard to say goodbye, even when you know it's right. You did right by your girl all her life, and I believe she knew that. She's pain free and young again at the Bridge. You're in my prayers. nancy
I wish I could hug you. That's a tough deal. But you know that you did the best - not just now but for all Sage's life. Ulthar, the cat, was 18 when he ran off when the door opened the day he was to go for surgery for a tumor in his ear - and we never found him . Vamp, the lab mix had to be put down at 15 after a major seizure when the vet said her liver and kidneys were way worse than her arthritis and she'd die soon anyhow - in pain. Frodo, the cat who thought he was a dog, died at 19. at home. of a progressing cancer that didn't cause pain but sure did cause death. Tyga, the cat, died at 15 as I took her out of her travel box after another check-up for her hyperthyroid problem that had her down to 4 pounds - she was at 6 when she went on meds. The tragedy of being human is that you outlive your pets.

Our Orlando had to be put to sleep in December, after being with us all of his 14 and a half years. A friend of mine (who feels about her dogs as I feel about mine) sent the following to me. It is not exactly in my own religious tradition, but the ideas expressed were spot on, and were a very good gift to receive when we lost our Orlando. ********************** A Parting Prayer Dear Lord, please open your gates and call St. Francis to come escort this beloved companion across the Rainbow Bridge. Assign him to a place of honor, for he has been a faithful servant and has always done his best to please me. Bless the hands that send him to you, for they are doing so in love and compassion, freeing him from pain and suffering. Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss. Help me remember the details of his life with the love he has shown me. And grant me the courage to honor him by sharing those memories with others. Let him remember me as well and let him know that I will always love him. And when it is my time to pass over into your paradise, please allow him to accompany those who will bring me home. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of his companionship and for the time we've had together. And thank you, Lord, for granting me the strength to give him to you now. Amen. Mudpups
I'm so sorry that you have lost little Sage. Even when you know it is coming, making that final decision and saying goodbye to such a loved companion is the hardest thing to do, but you made the right choice and she is no longer in pain. For me, knowing when to let them go, is the ultimate thing we can do for our dogs a repayment for the love, affection and devotion that they give us all their lives.
