It is not necessary to cite what wild animals do to make the argument that elaborate greeting rituals are normal behavior for dogs. Anyone who lives with dogs could tell you that.

 

Actually, there are quite a few people who live with dogs who don't consider it normal and consider it inexcusable "bad" behavior. I draw a distinction here between those who prefer for their dogs to greet them more quietly and so train them to do so and those who truly do see elaborate greetings from their dogs as some kind of nefarious attempt to take over the household.

 

So in my experience, I've found that such a citation, while perhaps not technically "necessary" is useful for helping some understand this very thing. :rolleyes:
