KrisK
I was in the local hardware store on Saturday. I happened to be wearing my Ontario Border Collie Association t-shirt. A clerk in the store says ' OH, I didn't know there was a BC association in Ontario. AND then says....I hope to breed Border Collies...I just got some land, and I'd like a kennel...' As politely as I could, I told her about the numbers of border collies in the 1,000's..in rescue, shelters, on death row..DEAD...and that the last thing that was needed was another breeder. I think she was sort of shocked, but then backtracked to say..oh of course I'll look at rescue! She doesn't even own a BC now but she wants to breed them I really hope I can educate her to follow the right course of action and not contribute to a problem! PSmitty
Good for you, Kris!
Kayleegator
As well as educating her about the thousands in rescue, I would ask such a person, "Do you really think you have the skill and experience to make a real contribution to the breed?" Unless she's got years and years of observing, training and trialing stock and sheepdogs, she's plum not qualified.
OurBoys
I hope the clerk takes your advice and does her homework. Thanks for speaking up!
Dixie_Girl
Way to go Kris! Hopefully she will think twice, or 3 times, or 4...........................
WyoBC
I wish more people would speek up when people talk about breeding dogs of any kind. There's always people that come out to the shelter and ask if we have any non neutered dogs so they can breed them. I just try to tell them as nice as I can, since we don't let any dogs or cats go without being fixed. Our motto is "spay-neuter-adopt" It's on all our shirts and caps. Thanks for stepping up and maybe talking her out of it.
Michelle K
It's sad that so many want to breed with no knowledge or experience. I just got understand people. We have way too many horrible breeders around here, and we definitely don't need anymore BCs in the shelters. Good job, Kris, on speaking up. I sure hope she listens to you.
