kelpiegirl
Lucy cut her pad- the cut is a few cm's down from the nail, going back into the pad. Not really a deep cut, but enough that she is lame on that leg. She did this on Weds, and this morning, there was fresh blood on the part of the cut that is on the outside of the toe- regular skin, not pad. I know pad injuries can be a real you know what to deal with. Anyway, any suggestions? I put some neosporin on it this morning, and was going to get some bag balm as well. The thing is, we have our first trial on Monday.... I would hate to miss it, but I can't run her lame. Thanks Julie
juliepoudrier
Cut pads take a while to heal. I would leave it open when she's in the house, but wrap it to keep it clean (and keep meds in contact with the cut) when she goes out. You may find that a gauze pad under the Vetwrap will eliminate all ouchiness. If she's not lame wrapped, you can safely run her (wrapped). J. kelpiegirl
Hi Julie Well, yesterday morning, I let her back in from her morning constitutional, and there was fresh blood- so I ended up bringing her in to the vet. Vet took a look, said it looked good, and to soak with weak betadine. Today it is better- lots of lay down lucy being said- I guess that is good practice for the trial after all? So, I think with one more day off, she will be okay. I so badly want to work her today, but I am afraid I will bust it open again- as she doesn't know how to take care of her body parts when working sheep... Julie Cut pads take a while to heal. kelpiegirl
Update: Lucy's pad was fine to work her on Sunday- the soaking in betadine on Friday, I think did wonders Julie
juliepoudrier
So Julie, how did the trial go? Feel free to post in the working section so it won't get lost here in H&G, but I was wondering how y'all made out (and Megan too). J.
