Dazzle picture on E-Bay?

Recommended Posts

She's got a ton of other breeds of dogs too...wonder if those people know that their pictures are being used for profit?

I too highly doubt that she either took those pictures herself or got permission for all of them. I was hoping that by sending her the copyright link that she might start to feel very guilty and change her ways....

I am sure it was a big surprise for her to actually get caught. My guess is she thought "How would anyone ever find out?". HOPEFULLY this will have an impact if she is indeed using other people's pictures...

I am glad that she took Dazzle's mousemats off sale but does't it make you think now about other people that must be doing the same thing as she is. I would be very angry if anyone used Holly's photo's like that and we are never really going to know. Luckily this time for Kat she found out but it must be going on with other people too.

I still carn't believe anyone could have the nerve to do it. I will look at items for sale much differently now! :D

I think you cannot copy pics from Dogster, at least if you check a certain option. So it's from this website (or another one where Kat might have had it posted) that they took it.

ADDEDI just tried to copy one of Ouzo's pics from Dogster and it saves it as a blank gif image with the following name: owner_permssion_required_for_use.gif

It's funny, in light of the thread from last month about copyrighting....

About the idea of only registered members view pics: with more than registered 7,300 members on this forum, that could be a needle in a haystack....

I don't think it could be from Dogster either.

When Dogster added their "owner permission" option I put that to use - that should still be working. It couldn't have been from here either, because I haven't posted that one anytime recent - and any pics before the board switch can no longer be seen (for whatever reason). So it must be somewhere else....

For me, being able to browse through the gallery was the only thing that kept me alive while I tried to find a puppy. At the time I wasn't a member but those pictures sure helped me survive! I actually went back as far as I could and looked at every. single. thread. :D I am sure other non-member lurkers enjoy looking at the pictures too.

I like that the boards are public and would hope the gallery can safely stay that way - there just has to be another way to stop this sort of thing from happening, but I haven't a clue what it is. :D

ETA:

her picture is here - on our Agility Club's page:

It is pretty small, but ya never know - could be from there.

Nope  but a looker nonetheless!

Exactly, we're just not going to know! Which is why I wouldn't spend so much energy getting mad at these people. When I put my pics on the web, it's like nailing them against a tree in the city park - they're out there. They're just not under my immediate control anymore. I don't find that thought so hard to live with.

Someone may steal control of a picture, but they can never steal the memories behind it, the pride of having taken a nice one, and the furry model's love and trust. At best, they're pretty doggie pics to the people out there - if they only knew!

Of course, if I tried to sell the pictures myself, the situation would be different.

JMO, of course. Good luck to those who do try to keep control over all of them.

I agree with Kat, it would be better to keep the gallery open for the lurkers. :D

Some sites have photos coded so you can't right click and save the photo. However there isn't anything (except an obnoxious watermark) that can stop people from taking a screen capture of the photo getting it that way.

So the photo could be from Dogster.

Please beware of Ebay fraudsters. DON'T GET PHISHED! Here's a warning from SANS:

- -- Fraudster on the Loose on eBay

Fraudulent listings on eBay continue to pile up, and the online auctioneer appears incapable of proactively putting an end to them.

Pornographic images by the hundreds are showing up as phony auctions on eBay, apparently posted by established users with highly favorable feedback ratings--a hallmark of accounts that have been hijacked and then used to con unsuspecting buyers. eBay representatives emphasize that the company's security department continuously snuffs out phony postings, which comprise a tiny percentage of overall listings. Still, some fraudulent auctions contain links that direct would-be buyers to spoofed sites that attempt to phish their eBay credentials.
