raw diet questions

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a lot of the raw diet posts and I'm intrigued. Skip, my BC, has a sensitive tummy and is on a dry dog food from a mass distributor (maybe it's Purina... I just look for the bag that says "Sensitive Systems"). Anywho, obviously dogs thrived on raw food until there became a pet industry which changed feeding habits. So my question is, what are the benefits of a raw diet (especially when used on a dog w/ a sensitive tummy)? What does it do that dry dog food doesn't? Also, do you just pick up chicken pieces at your local grocery store and give it to them? What about diseases, chemicals etc.? How much time and money goes into giving your dog a raw diet?

I tried searching it initially. I think maybe there's a problem w/ the search engine b/c I keep getting an error message when I enter "raw diet". I'll go digging through old posts.

Nevermind, I found it . Search was too narrow. Plain ol' "diet" worked

Ah, here's an excuse to play with Kessie pictures on a boring morning :D . For her it makes a big difference if the coat is anything to go by (which it surely is).

September 05, kibble-fed (most probably all her life)

July 06, raw-fed since late 05

Early September 06 after about three weeks of mainly kibble (couldn't feed her raw because of travelling). The neck scruff had also suffered from burrs during that time.

Late September 06 (back on raw for a couple of weeks)

Late October 06 (raw-fed)

Yesterday: this year's version of the summer coat, apparently (sorry about the fog, I didn't get any unfoggy close shots of her). Raw, of course. The fluffy tail is back and it's a bastard to comb again  .
