Claire Owen
Hi all, hope everyone is ok! I'm gonna have to have Bailey put into boarding kennels for best part of a week on Thursday but as its such short notice we havent had time to get his kennel cough vaccination done, so I was just wondering what are the symptoms of kennel cough (is it just a cough?) so I know what to look out for when we get back from my mums. I hope he'll be ok in kennels, he hasnt been into kennels since we got him from the rescue shelter 2 and a bit years ago, needless to say I'm gonna spend the entire time I'm away worrying about him. I'm gonna give him an old t-shirt I've slept in to keep with him (plus his bed and toys) but does anyone else have any suggestions on how to make this as easy for him as possible? Thanks guys Claire
shelb'smum
just me, but I wouldn't put him in there without the shot!!! try to get into the vet and get it done, or I think you can get it at a Wilco (animal feed store). but I would be worried sick about it. and havingn to go through 2 dogs with KC at the same time was NOT fun!! ETA: forgot that its a nose dripping

juliepoudrier
It won't be effective immediately Exactly, which is why I don't understand why many hospitals require a bordatella vaccine the *day of* leaving the dog there. For example, when I had Twist in for a procedure, they insisted on giving her the vaccine that day, so they got $$ for the vaccine, and my dog basically got no protection from any kennel cough she may have encountered in the 8 or so hours she was there. End of rant... J.
Claire Owen
I spoke to my vet and he wont do the vaccination anyway because its too short notice, if I'd had at least another weeks notice then he would have done although some kennels insist you have it done 14 days before your dogs stays with them. So getting it done isnt an option anyway unfortunately, although I'm sure Bailey isnt complaining!!!!

Claire Owen
Hey Smiley, love you signature picture, its so cute! I'm ok, getting bigger by the day, I'm due on the first of June, which sounds really far away until I think that its basically the end of next month !!!!! How are you???? I'm not sure if Baileys had kennel cough before, when we got him we were given antibiotics for him 'just in case' and he did have a sorta cough, but dont know if that was actually kennel cough or not. Either way the anti biotics cleared it up pretty quickly!
smileyzookie
Riven was given antibiotics and cough syrup as well. She got better within 2 weeks. The first of June isnt far at all!!!! Im so glad everything is goin well with the pregnancy. Do you have the nursery ready yet? Thanks for the compliment on my siggy. SincereArtisan took pity on me and made it for me lol. Everything is good here. We just switched Rohan and Riven to raw. Rohan is doing fabulous but Riven is bein a pain and not eating, so until she eats the chicken breast she doesnt get anything else. I think she's having dog treat withdrawls too. The neighbor kids were giving her like 20 dog bones when they'd come in... she had horrible gas, so I just gave the bones to the kids for their dog lol. ETA: Did I tell you my brother is back from Afganistan?? He leaves again in June to flight school in South Dakota lol.
Claire Owen
Yay thats fantastic news about your brother, you must be so happy!!! I'm so pleased he made it back safe and sound!!!!! Yeah we just about have the nursery ready, just got to buy the cot (which we're doing later this month) and thats it, then I can sit back and relax... if the bachache eases up for long enough for me to relax that is I'm sure Riven will get the hang of it, I know it took Bailey a while, anything on a bone I had to shred with a knife so it was near enough hanging clean off the bone... which was pretty gruesome but it worked for some reason. I just saw the pictures of Rohan wolfing down the chicken, shes a pro!
Meg's mum
Meg got kennel cough even though she had her bortadella...(always sounds like the name of a northern itallian ham). Her cough lasted three weeks even though she got antibiotics. It was awful.
WyoBC
Our other dog had kennel cough about eight years ago. The kennel didn't tell us that it was going around until after she had it. I think she did get the shot before, but got it anyway. It's kind of like when they suck in wrong and start gasping for air, it lasts about 30 seconds or so, then they start to feel better. She had an attack about every half hour or so for about two weeks. It was awful. But the vet (a different one then) didn't give her anything for it, then just told us to let he get over it by herself
