  1. I had to download the software to print the coupon and after printing removed the download. Figured we could use ours towards Alex's rabies, due in May, or for a couple months heartworm preventative for Alex or Elwood. Esox
  2. That's what I was thinking of doing with Alex. A half and half thing. Esox
  3. They are giving away 1,000 a day. I got there right on the hour mark and was able to get one. They only give away 80+ an hour. You have to take your pet to the vet before 31 May 09 for preventative care. Flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, dental, shots, or well care visit. You and the vet fill out the voucher and you should get a rebate. Thought some might be interested. Here's the link: http://www.gettothevet.com/index.html Esox
  4. Hi. I was wondering if anyone here is using these or has heard anything about them. I am considering them as part of Alex's diet. I am getting a bit of resistance from J. She thinks that Alex will become wild and start hunting food if I switch her to an all raw or part raw/part Innova diet. I did have to chuckle since Alex views the wild animals, her lab brothers, and the cats as mutant sheep. Esox
  5. Happy to hear the great news. I love happy outcomes. Esox
  6. What a handsome guy. I'm glad you found each other and glad for Loki also. Esox
  7. We use Frontline on our dogs. Border Collie and 2 Labs. We have never had a problem and we live in upstate New York. Esox
  8. Amazing. Brought tears of joy to my eyes. Esox
  9. Many have probably already read this at one time or another. Wanted to post this in honor of all the dogs that I have read about here that have brought so much to their human's lives. I rescued a human today. Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one. I rescued a human today.
  10. Alex is the mud queen. She will change direction whatever to get into the mud. That's my little lady. Esox
  11. Alex had her eyes checked and she is FINE. She goes back in June for her physical. She goes everything 6 months. She did have a minimal amount of discharge from her eye so she might have a little cold. Her lungs are clear so just keeping an "eye" on her. Thanks for everyone's good thoughts. Esox
  12. Thanks for everyone's good thoughts. A little more on the bond between Alex and I. I'm a veteran. She has healed me so much. This may sound strange to say about a Border Collie, but I have learned how to be calm again. Last night I was not having one of my best nights and after our nightly walk and playing she hopped up in bed with me and just lay her head on my stomach and we went to sleep. Esox
  13. Calling the vet tomorrow and praying that it is nothing. Alex was outside earlier and barked and barked at me until I was within a couple feet of her and then got all excited with the it's my mom. She is also startled by movement on her right side. She's only 3 and has made so much progress from the aggressive little monster. I have never been this close with any dog and I have been blessed with many good dogs in my life. I think this the dog I was meant to have and now I'm afraid something is wrong. Esox

  15. I too have a Maine Coone, Oskar. Jackie has other names for him which I will not repeat. He is the sweetest cat if you are a person and are ok with a bit of mischief. He rules the house as far as the other animals, with one exception. He rules the other cats, the 2 Labs, but not the Border Collie. Alex and Oskar actually play. You'll see him run across the house with her in pursuit and a couple minutes later she'll run across the house with him in pursuit. He is a little devil full of mischief though. Esox
  16. Thank God he's home. I'm so happy for you and for him. Esox
  17. Sending good thoughts and prayers for the little guy and for you. I have been watching this thread with interest, but had nothing to add to the great advice you had already gotten. Please keep us updated. Esox and Alex
  18. Handsome young man. Congratulations on 4 years. Esox
  19. Alex and her 2 Lab brothers eat the same food, Innova Adult Dog Food. Today BF picked up a bag of Innova Large Breed Adult Dog Food because the cost is better. The 2 Labs are 80 lbs. and 110 lbs. Alex is 43 lbs. Did a little research and so far I can't see where it will hurt her to eat Large Breed, but I'm a bit unsure. Would like the get the expertise and opinions of the people here before she starts eating it. Thanks, Esox
  20. I don't understand this designer dog craze. If there is not one single dog breed that attracts you, I'm sure there is a Heinz 57 at a shelter that is exactly what you want. I also remember reading somewhere that someone was breeding a Newfoundland/Border Collie mix. Why? Esox
  21. We have a pair of Dachshunds down the road and they are terrors. They'll come after any other dog. I was walking Elwood (70 lb. Lab) and Alex (43 lb. Border Collie) and they charged. Their owners always thought they were amusing. My dogs and I started to cross the street, although my dogs did stay attentive, and one of the dachshunds ran up and bit Elwood. Elwood flipped one and Alex pinned the second. Thank God all the dogs were fine. Now the owners are always out with the Dachshunds and will get them under control before they chase. Esox
  22. Very poignant. Happy New Year to you and yours. Gotta go spend some more time with Alex. Esox
