  1. hair sheep. ewes 2 to 3 years old. only 5. large field
  2. i have asked the expert, i would like your input on subject. A special thanks to Kelpiegirl for her response. here is problem. my seven year old BC has a good outrun, squaring, driving.however we have a problem with confrontational sheep. as long as i keep BC at a distance sheep will more and all go well. when i shorten the conford zone a couple of sheep will charge and back him off. i have tried to get him to snap at them but he will only back down and circle them and gather them. i have heard several methods to try and get him to grip the sheep. what is you recommendations. PS i have a three year old, had only 3 months, and only in beginning stages of training. they will not even think of backing him off. he will grip them in a second. thanks for the help bill

  4. sorry for not answer sooner but we had a lot of things happening here and i just put it off. thanks for the help. Good ideas....have stopped in now before he moves in on the lead sheep. i also insisting on a wider outrun. this has helped... can not put pressure on him. he is a dog that is a rescue dog. he was one hour away from being put down. a service group got him and want to make him a service dog. no luck at all. i have had him for about three months and he is doing great. i took him to a clinic with David Henry and he did well. when originally found he had burn marks around his neck from shock collar and very thin. he is a charm of a dog.
  5. i have put this out to the expert...but maybe some of you good folk have experience this. would like to hear from you. bill have two BC that work. one is seasoned but the other is a nebie. the Nebie will circle the three sheep and then will walk through them and single out the lead sheep. i have dropped him behind the sheep and all goes well for awhile. the sheep start to graze and pay little attention to dog and he then will walk pass them and single out the lead sheep. he will fetch this sheep and after a little while will realize he has to go back to get the others. i had leghuggers and just got these three sheep about 2 months ago. the seasoned BC moves them well and if he get too close they will challenge him. i have looked in your book but unable to come up with a solution. do you have any suggestions. thanks in advance.

  11. in the eighty's i would trial with my dog and i never came in the first 10. Zac was a farm dog and a very good one. So, i build a trail course in my back field and zac would go through it very day. some days he was super some day not so super. But, he and i won every day. Enjoy your self do not worry if you dog does not win, remember he is trying to please you, so love him/her for trying her/him best and there will always be another trial. bill
  12. i will be looking at dog that is between 3 and 5 years old. I saw him in the vet office and he appears well adjusted and knows basic commands. The rescue person wanted me to look at the dog and possibly keep it. I told her that i did not want another pet, but a dog that will work. On Wednesday of this week she is going to bring the dog to my house for evaluation to determine if he fits in with my other BC and has herding abilities. What do i look for?????????????????????????????????? bill
