  1. Thank you Kris And just wanted to let everyone know that Jake went to his forever home today A teamates-sister's-co-worker adopted him and he is happy happy happy in his new home.Must be a very sweet dog to not have lost his happiness and friendliness while living on a chain. Thank You to eveyone who inquired, and wished him well
  2. A 17 HOUR drive AND helping organize the event, I'm suddenly feeling very inadequate I'm going to look for Launch ! I love the gift bag exchange idea, still waiting to get our team's name.We are all so excited ! If you need any help with anything, come get me-Kat on Clean Break.
  3. That's so sad I don't understand why people like that HAVE dogs-what's the point ? Boxers are so sweet and friendly and family/pack oriented, those poor dogs.
  4. HA HA Thank you Bonnie , he did turn out very handsome. He was such a goober as a kid, ears like elephant's ears and I thought he was a smoothie. Thank you for keeping Jake in mind ( my friend is keeping the other one ) and congrats on your new addition
  5. Thanks again Paula, you didn't know your friend Kat was such a rabble-rousing troublemaker (actually neither did I )
  6. AAACCK I didn't mean to start all this. Let me clarify - too old is something determined on an individual basis. I vounteer for a wildlife rehabilitator who is 80 and I cannot now nor could ever in my past 9 years of volunteering, keep up with her. She wins gold medals in the senior olympics every year. The picture of Jake chained to some heap of metal enraged me beyond belief and also made me cry. We have had horrendous flooding in this area and tropical storm Lee which gave us drenching rain for 2 weeks. Two weeks that Jake and his brother spent outside in it.Not to mention last winter, and the winter before. I am furious at these particular 80 year olds for putting these dogs through that. I didn't mean to offend anyone, but I also don't give a crap about political correctness, I ONLY care about the dog- period. The dog is all that matters to me, and trying to find him a home he will never have to be re-homed from. I hope when I'm 84 I still have dogs, I wouldn't want to live without them, but my husband and I have discussed that in a few more years we will limit ourselves to adopting older Border Collies who need a home so we can grow old together and we are nowhere near 80. So hopefully the focus can stay on Jake, again I apologize to those who think I am a jerk, and Thank those who understand what I'm trying to say. And thank you to the person who has already been in touch, I let my friend know. Kat, who doesn't like arguing it makes her tummy hurt .
  7. Hi Paula ! You have no idea how much Clean Break wishes the Barkaneers were going ! But we absolutely can't wait to go back to Georgia
  8. Well see y'all there, our team is Clean Break, and so excited !
  9. Hi Kim, Considering the dogs are 1 and 3, and a breed which needs a job and a lot of physical activity, what is the future for these dogs even if they were being cared for properly ? The man is 84, the wife, 80-something ,health failing. However they are NOT being cared for properly, they are chained outside all year long. As far as screening people, all I meant was that, if someone from Timbucktoo joined the board tomorrow out of nowhere and had no references, and wanted the dog, sorry- it would be a no.And if someone 84 years old wanted the dog, I'm sorry again it would be a no. I don't post too often on here myself as you can see from my profile,I lose myself on this board timewise, can't stop reading and end up being late for things, ha ha, so just pop in here and there. But there are folks whose posts I've been reading for years, and a few people on here I have interacted with away from this board and whose judgement I would trust. I would never just hand a dog over to " anyone " , so that's all I meant. I have passed the word locally, but for all I know there are good people on this board who are within driving distance.I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible to find the forever home this boy is waiting for. Kat, who has never put in a fence but has certainly been hot and cranky at times
  10. Photo of " Jake " that was his name and apparently he answers to it and has a positive response to it.
  11. Our team from Pennsylvania is going, they have been before, but first time for myself, hubby, and our 4 year old BC Flyball maniac Finn. Very excited, and sort of can't believe we are driving that far for flyball
  12. A teamate on my flyball team heard of two Border Collies needing help. Both male, 1 yr old and 3 yr old, living with people in their EIGHTIES , chained in the yard. Each morning the man tied their chain to his golf cart and runs them around his field for excercise.Wife took ill and they realize they cannot care for these dogs. ( Ya think ! ). My friend picked them up, she is keeping the 1 yr old, the 3 yr old needs a home. They are both sweet , loving, cuddlebunnies , obviously the dog will need time, work, commitment, and patience but at least is young and good-tempered.On the small side, classic black and white medium/rough.I have his picture on my Facebook page, will try and get a pic I can post here.He looks surprisingly good and is wearing a sweet smile. We are in south central PA not far from the Maryland line. If anyone is interested, please email me KitKat2205@aol.com I'll be honest upfront, if I don't recognize you, before I respond I'll be checking with people I know ( Betty ,Paula ) or with Julie, just to make sure you are okay.As anyone would, to protect this sweet guy. Thank You ! Kat, owned by Finn
  13. Hey there Vickkers, This past weekend we had the pleasure of Tanisha & Blaze from GoDogGo run with us on our open team ( Clean Break ) at the Flash Point tourney in York Pa. Tanisha is so sweet and I LOVED Blaze, that dog has the shiniest coat I have ever seen ! Tell them " hey " from Kat ( I was shagging balls for their team ). I get so excited when I see an email notification of an update to this thread. Prayers for Kayla and her humans
  14. I'm so sorry it didn't go well for her This time it should help her to see you return after just one night. I usually don't go anywhere my animals can't go, but there have been rare occaisions, and as much as I hate to do it, I will always choose a kennel.I want my dog under lock and key, and behind fences and gates, if I am not there.I used to work for a vet, and learned how animals in a scary/strange situation will use all their wiles and quickness to try and escape.Fortunately we never had an escape, but every day was a battle of wits as animals tried plotting their freedom. It's not that I don't trust my friends or family, it's just that mistakes happen to everyone, so I would rather mitigate than have to try & forgive. And when their parent is gone, & they are in a strange place, they are going to try to leave to find you. So no matter how bad you feel while she is there, just remember that she is safe and will be there when you come to get her.
  15. Liz, I'm in York County, is this boarding place anywhere near me, it sounds great ? I left my 3 yr old Finn in a doggie camp for a week last month, while we went to Maine. It was fine, but I really like the sound of your place, 12 dogs, BC people Prior to my Maine trip the last boarding was in 1997, my last BC, we went to New Orleans for 5 days. Both trips were forced by husband, I did not want to go.We're fortunate to have family in a number of places including the beach, so where we go, our animals go, but it's nice to have a good place just in case. Thanx
  16. One posting I saw said the 10th, & this one says the 11th, you are correct.I simply copied this posting as it included the link to print out the flyer I don't know them personally, the alert came from members of my flyball team. Praying for a happy reunion
  17. I had the same question when my Finn was just over a year, his teeth had gotten very dirty. After working as a vet tech I do not like anaesthesia unless absolutely neccessary, so I asked on here & the wise folks reccommended raw meaty bones. They were right ! We buy the Primal " Recreation " bones, usually the 4 inch beef, and knawing on them does remove the tartar ( plus he loves it http://www.primalpetfoods.com/product/list/c/11

  19. Is this study still active/sending kits for testing ? My 2 year old BC is thunder/noise phobic and I would be happy to send a swab or blood. Kat, owned by Finn
  20. Hi Mark, yes it is the Mechanicsburg/Carlisle area.I was recently given her phone number and have not contacted her yet.I want to do a little research first,a little studying of the basics, terminology and whatnot.I don't want to go up there and be a complete idiot like " flank? what's flank-a cut of meat ? " LOL. I have sympathy for any trainer getting not only a green dog, but a green human as well. I'm also working hard with Finn to get a solid recall and a solid " lie down ", and we've switched the " come " command to " here" so as not to confuse with " come bye ". But my very question was is he maybe too old to start, and you all have given me a hopeful response on that one, Thank You ! Kat, owned by Finn
