  1. IMO 10 miles is an easy stroll for a bc. I think I read somewhere that working bcs can walk/run 90-100/day during intense working situations. My girl easily goes 25 miles then wants to go play frisbee.
  2. Is this the egg toy? http://www.proballinc.com/egge.htm If anyone has this, I'd love to know how the dogs like it! Dottie's favorite toy is always the Kong frisbee.
  3. Let us know how the puppy party went! And take lots of photos! And post them somewhere so we can all see! Happy Birthday!
  4. Back to the original topic....I couldn't believe that it is legal to sell dog fur in the US, so I googled and found this (http://www.hsus.org/furfree/news/retailers...abeled_fur.html): "The Humane Society of the United States is also calling on Congress to amend the Dog and Cat Protection Act?which bans the sale of dog or cat fur in the United States?to include raccoon dog, since the animals are so inhumanely killed and the species is similar to domesticated dogs. Raccoon dogs are indigenous to Asia, including eastern Siberia and Japan." So apparently there is a "Dog & Cat Protecti
  5. Yep, we've had more wind here in WA than any year I can remember, and the kids have had 6 snow days already! I'm just waiting for sea levels to rise. Then I'll have waterfront!
  6. The primary difference in meat & fur production here vs China is that here we have laws, rules, regulations, etc, regarding how animals will be treated. Reading "Fast Food Nation" was an eye opener, certainly, but most animals killed here in the US are killed humanely because of our strict laws. Mark, I don't know if this link will work, but I'll give it a try. It is a PETA film. I copied it from another forum (I hope that's okay). http://www.freewebs.com/dogsinasia/theevidence.htm Everyone else, don't watch it! It will give you nightmares. PS I'm a vegetarian. Unf
  7. Not shopping at JC Penney's ever again! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16597610/ I'm going to go picket the store now.
  8. Many people don't see dogs as companions. They see them as animals. Kinda like chickens. It's sad, but that's why China has dog farms, just like we have livestock farms. I only hope that they are treated humanely (I know they're not in China).
  9. What a life! http://www.pnwbcrescue.org/show_bio.php?Im...ze=2&DogId=2015
  10. I love the rant! I have always allowed that all the different behaviors that the different breeds display are variations of prey drive. Newfy's retrieve people from water, labs retrieve dead ducks, greyhounds chase fake rabbits, my kitties chase bits of fluff, etc. However, I would never say a newfy was hunting prey when it rescued a person from the water, because the instinctive behavior has changed so much from the prey drive it originally was. Newfy's actually jump into the water to save people with no training whatsoever! I like to celebrate these differences in dogs' behavio
  11. Regarding the dog profiled in the link from the last post: What a great mom she is! It's very sweet. Except that I can't help but resent that these two women brought 20 puppies into the world (at least 12 of them mixed breed) through intentional breeding. What a shame when there are so many dogs in shelters being euthanized.
  12. Here's a good ad: http://www.pnwbcrescue.org/show_bio.php?Im...ze=2&DogId=1952 If you write a good ad, the money will come in, I hope.
  13. Hi there, I was reading your post a few days ago while going through exactly the same thing with my new dog. She's 2.5 yo, and scratches herself constantly. Couldn't even sleep at night. I tried Advantage, and it didn't help so I got some duck and potato food. I found a couple of fleas on her and read about diatomaceous earth for fleas. I bought a huge bag for $9 and sprinkled it on her like flea powder. DE is all natural and non-toxic. Diatoms are microscopic shells that cut the exoskeleton of insects so they dehydrate to death. It worked beautifully! No itching! Great nights s
