  1. It doesn't seem to be possible in the current software. You can go to your profile and edit your member title, but that just shows up under your screen name. Sorry it's not more flexible.
  2. Well, we all appreciate your keeping us in the loop nonetheless. When it's all over, if you or someone else could post here and to Sheepdog-L to get the word out, that would be terrific. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for letting us know, Laura, but what do you mean by "resolution"? Do you mean that a vote is in progress? If so, wouldn't writing to the directors (who might not yet have voted) be helpful? Or do you mean that the vote has concluded? Thanks for the clarification.
  4. Out of curiosity, I googled the web site of the individual who apparently sparked the board's decision (she's the AKC herding judge who was nominated to judge the Finals). I think it shows instantly the striking difference in culture Check out the "brags" section of the site--I can easily picture an entry there bragging about being chosen to judge the Finals, permanently posted for all the world to see and draw conclusions about the synchronicity between AKC and the USBCHA. The thought makes me shudder.
  5. Thanks for reporting this. It turned out that there was an error in how I had the parameters set up--it should be working ok now. Let me know if you have any more problems.
  6. Hi, Folks: Sorry I'm late to this thread I did some research, and I confirmed that there is an incompatibility with our bulletin board software (and other bulletin board software) and IE 11. So if you can downgrade from IE 11 (which appears to be generally buggy) back to IE 10, that would be a good thing to do. If you can't, the quote function should work fine on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or just about anywhere else.
  7. Hi, Gary: Sorry for the delay in responding. Are you still having the problem? That sort of thing is normally a problem on your send, since your browser needs to accept cookies for the site to remember your password.
  8. Unfortunately, there WON'T be a web cast this year. There will be a DVD, however, so that's something. We'll hope to have the web cast back next year. Sorry, everyone!
  9. You're the only one who can see that--everyone sees his or her own warning points, but nobody can see each other's. Since we're not currently using warning points, it's irrelevant. I'll see if we can take it away entirely.
  10. Ok, more troubleshooting. I just opened a Chrome Incognito window, and I could edit fine. So it was something to do with a plug-in. Can you tell me what plug-ins you have installed?
  11. So I've been doing some more fiddling and testing, and it appears to me that the bug only effects the Mac version of Chrome. border_collie_crazy, do you have a Mac? (No.)
  12. You're right--works fine in Firefox, but not in Chrome. I'll go see how it is in IE now. Now I'm editing in IE. If this posts, it works there, too. test 3
  13. You're right--I can't either. I'll open a ticket with the software folks. Thanks for reporting it!
  14. In my long experience with bulletin boards, avatars sometimes don't make the journey over during a major upgrade. I'm seeing avatars with most of the posters, so I hope this is going to be a limited problem. But keep me posted on stuff, and I'll do my best to solve the problems. I like the look of this upgrade, and I think in general the user interface looks nicer. So that's good, at least!
  15. One free book to one person who will be randomly chosen. Sorry to be unclear--I seem to suck at marketing!
  16. Outrun Press is sponsoring a book giveaway on NEBCA member Jenna Woginrich's great homesteading blog Cold Antler Farm. (If you're not reading this blog, you should be!). All you need to do to get a free book is post a comment to the "Sheepdog Book Giveaway" blog entry telling which title you'd like. If you're stuck for gifts for general dog-loving friends, I'd particularly recommend Carol Lea Benjamin and Denise Wall's DO BORDER COLLIES DREAM OF SHEEP? and T Yamamoto's AMERICAN LAMBS. Good luck, all!
  17. I think an article about the day-by-day living with a border collie would be a nice addition. If anyone wants to take that on, make sure to look at the material that we already have in the BC Basics section, so you won't duplicate efforts. Thanks for your thinking caps!
  18. Thanks for the offer! Just send me a copy of the article, so we can see if it's appropriate for the site. I appreciate it!

  19. If anyone wants to help by writing an updated piece for the politics section of this web site, it would be greatly appreciated. I've just posted a general call for articles for this site in the General forum: http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.php?showtopic=32037 Think about it! It's very hard to keep content on a web site fresh, accurate, and engaging, and any help to that end would be a service to the breed. Don't save all of your best thoughts for posts. Let's talk about writing some articles and getting some good content up in the Politics section of this site!
  20. The All About Border Collies web site needs your help! Last year we completed a face lift of the old site, updating the code and improving its design and flow. Now we really want to beef up its content. But we need the help of our BC Boards community to do this well--we have a lot of talent here to harness! If you have a good idea for an article that can be added to any of our main categories (Basics, Health, Training, or Culture) and you can produce it or can get someone else do so, let me know, either by posting to this thread or by private message. Right now, this site is the number one place that people seeking information about border collies find when they do a web search. We want the information that they find when they get here to be the best and most current it can be. Remember: we all love the border collie. If everyone does a little bit, a lot can get done in education and communication. Thanks very much!
  21. Because I was personally going crazy with open browser tabs and windows trying to keep tweets and results and streaming videos straight for both the US Finals and the World Trial, I created a one-stop shop web page on Sheepdog News that has twitter feeds from both events, plus links to the official scores of each (and a link to the login page for the US Finals web cast). Hope you guys find it useful, too. I've left my "Tweets" page as it was for those who aren't interested in the World Trial: http://www.sheepdog.com/results/
  22. I posted the list of new USBCHA (as it was read to me) at www.sheepdog.com
  23. Hi, Everyone: I`m running a contest to help promote the web cast of the 2011 Finals--two people will win DVD box sets of all the runs, preliminary round through double-lift finals. Details can be found at http://www.sheepdog.com/2011/09/win-a-dvd-box-set-of-the-2011-national-sheepdog-finals.html If you`re interested in pre-ordering a DVD, go to http://sheepdogdvdstore.blogspot.com/ (if you order one and happen to win the contest, it`ll all be sorted out). Here are some important details about the DVDs: 1. DVDs are ten percent off up until the end of the Finals on September 18. After that, they can be ordered through early November. Once the ordering deadline has passed, they won`t be available again unless they show up on Ebay. So if you think you might want one, buy one! (I`ve gotten a lot of emails over the past year from people who really want to buy the 2010 DVDs, and are sorry and surprised to learn that they can`t.) 2. If you`ve purchased an unlimited web cast ticket, you`ll be offered a further discount on your DVD. So if you`ve bought such a ticket and want a DVD, do NOT order now. You`ll be sent an email after the web cast with a link for your discounted price. And remember--you can register to watch the web cast (broadcast this coming weekend starting at 8:00 AM MDT) at http://www.sheepdogfinals.com/webcast.html As always, please direct any questions you might have to me, and I`ll do my best to answer them. Happy contesting, and good luck to all!
  24. I've posted information about the 2011 streaming video of the Finals in the General Discussion forum: http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.php?showtopic=31885
  25. Hi, Everyone: The ever-popular streaming web cast of the National Sheepdog Finals is back! We have some good good news (even more production values!) and some not-so-good (we`re charging for access after the first free hour, but we`ve kept the costs as reasonable as we could). First, the details. Esteban Escobar (our fearless producer) explains how it`s all going to work this year in this video (it`s long, but I think it`s pretty amusing!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIrj1ZHwkzQ Our short-and-snappy promotional video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aaIalXV7_U Post either of these videos wherever you like--we want to get the word out about this year`s video broadcast to as many people as possible. By the end of the week, I`ll post a PDF file in the Sheepdog-L archives that (like last year) people can print out and put in their vet`s offices, feed stores, etc. Let`s let people know about the event that`s coming! Thanks to Serta, everyone will be able to watch an hour (any hour at any time) of the broadcast for free. If you want to watch more than an hour, you`ll need to purchase a ticket. The instructional video above explains how the ticket prices are going to work, but please contact me if you have any questions. You will not be able to register for the free ticket until Friday the 16th, but the paid tickets are ready for purchase now. Finally, the tickets can be purchased now at the following link: http://live.todocast.tv/template.ma.php?EventNumber=TDC-E1490 Some important stuff: * The video crew will be on site in Carbondale to film every single Open run. These runs will NOT be streamed live--only the semi-finals and finals will be streamed. However, these runs will be available for viewing soon after the event for anyone who has purchased the "unlimited" ticket. * This year, handlers will be able to purchase their own runs in MP4 format, suitable for posting to YouTube or Vimeo (or just storing on your own computer as a record). * DVD sets will be available in various permutations and combinations. DVDs will have commentary on/off option. "Commentary on" will have both whistles and commentary. "Commentary off" will have only whistles (there may be some commentary spill into the whistle mic from the speakers on-site but this should be minimal). This commentary on/off feature was implemented as a result of feedback from people who purchased the Bluegrass DVDs. The order cutoff for the DVDs will be November 15. DVDs will be delivered by December 20. Here`s a quick summary of how the pricing structure will work: Webcast tickets 1 hour: free (can only be selected once and will not be available for selection until September 16). 2 hour: $10 (3 hours with the free Serta hour) 10 hour: $29 (11 hours with the free Serta hour) Unlimited: $59 (2 live webcast days, plus unlimited access to all 6 days on demand and a discount on the DVD) . Handler Runs (MP4 format--handlers can only purchase their own runs) $20 flat fee per dog, includes all the runs a particular dog has, from individual runs through the double-lift finals DVDs $25 Semi-Finals $25 Finals $45 Semi-Finals & Finals $75 box set (all 6 days) Please let me know if you have any questions!
