  1. Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. This project has been put on the back burner as our hands are full with the ewes we got. long story short: Pregnant, underweight(bcs: 1), heavy loads of worms due within a month.
  2. Thank you so much with all of your replies, I will certainly look into finding some trials to attend as well as contact people suggested. Any information I get is useful to me, as I am such a newbie. I'm sure I will be reading 1 or 2 of these over a couple of times in order to absorb as much info as possible. Thank you all, again.
  3. By the way~for anyone that may know someone for me....I am not interested in high pressure training for trials, etc. Just want to be able to reliably and safely work around our own animals.
  4. Would you mind sending me a private message with the name of the person you mentioned, so I will know if I come across it myself? Thank you, very much!
  5. I posted this a few days ago on the 'ask an expert' board....maybe it was the incorrect place to put it..... Hi, Cali came into our family when she was 8 months old. She is now just over 3 years old and my husband and I would like to add some sheep to our small farm. I would like to find a trainer/mentor nearby to work with us so that Cali and I can work the sheep together. We live in Upstate NY- Red Creek. Any information that you could pass along would be greatly appreciated. If you need/want more info from me, let me know! Thank you! added..... ****I have no idea of her breeding, I do not have a copy of her papers, am in the process now of contacting her original owner to see if she still has them. **** We have done an obedience course and a couple agility courses also, neither of those trainers have experience with herding and came up blank when I asked if they knew who I could contact.*****

  7. Thanks again! We've got a lot of work ahead of us, but she's a smart girl I'm confident that she will become a good canine citizen, eventually! I am so glad I found this place, I will definitely keep you posted.
  8. Thanks for the responses everyone. I'd like to pick your brains again, if you don't mind. I've thought about leaving her in the barn during the day-when the horses are left in because of weather, etc.-in the hopes that she will relax a bit more. She has a playmate (the neighbors pup) that would be in there with her- what do you think?
  9. I have a 16 month old female that we acquired 6 months ago from a family that had her in a crate for 16+ hours a day. Needless to say, she came to us knowing nothing. Not even housebroken. She has come a LONG way from then in the little while we have had her-but I know she's still got a long way to go. I have a few questions/concerns-but will begin with just one. I have a couple of horses in our barn, one of my goals with Cali is to have her accompany us on trail rides. She was fearful at first, now has become fairly obsessed with the horses. I have found that the obsessiveness escalates when either she or the horses are confined. (Horses in their stalls, etc.) I can get her attention now- she wouldn't even flick an ear in my direction at first. Any suggestions on how to make her more comfortable/relaxed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
