  1. Thank you for all the very wise advise. When reading all of this it makes so much sense! I do agree each dog is different, no doubt and it sounds like I have tons of work to start on! My biggest battle is meeting other dogs. He loves to mingle even if I say leave it, So I am going to make my list of issues and tackle one by one with all of your advice. I love my dog and he is just the happiest dog around but i know he could be happier if i can tackle these issues. I will update you guys, if you dont mind, and hopefully soon!
  2. Ok, I have a 3 yr old neutered male BC. I have met more than a handful of owners that have BC as well. All of their dogs were calm, settled nicely, no whining, listens very well, and did nothing but pay attention to the owner meaning could care less for other dogs or people. My dog, is the opposite. He will try with all his might to play with other dogs, pulls when walking on leash (we are working on that), wants to greet everyone that walks by basically complete opposites of all the other BC I have met. He has earned his cgc (point of mentioning titles is to just state what level of training we are at) and has a CD title. Obviously they mean nothing in the real world or I wouldn't be posting this. My question is why are other BC so calm and mine is all over the place. What type of training do I need to work on? Stupid question I feel that I'm asking but can someone break this down for me and tell me where to start? Please? Kris
  3. Omg very cute! Melts your heart just to look at her! Congrats on your new addition to the family!
  4. Yea I was starting to think the same thing.... but it just seems that he could have so much fun doing it! He understands fetching repeatedly with a ball... He loves it! I think I am going to try for a few more months and see how it goes... if he doesnt take then maybe i just need to accept its not his thing... too bad for me I guess.. Frogs&Dogs: Those are wonderful pics! you guys must have so much fun together! I guess as long as we continue to build our relationship in a positive matter we can find something else to do for free time play... am I dissapointed? sort of, but I wont give up yet! Thank you all for sharing your stories! very fun to read! These doggies got us by the heart and will never let go..... best thing ever!
  5. You know now that you say that, I switched from orijen to totw and I was wondering why he was itchy... Not a lot but enough for me to notice... Since then I switched to acana and no more itch.... Hmm interesting....
  6. This is way off topic but your pictures look really nice... What type of camera do you use?
  7. Hi I have been trying to get my dog to learn frisbee. He just doesn't seem to be very interested in it. I normally work him up with the frisbee making it look appealing and he gets very excited for it, then I throw it he somewhat catches it and I cheer with excitement he runs back to me drops the frisbee and I throw it again (excitingly) and then he just stares like I just brought it to you why'd you throw it again. Is this something you need to continuously do until he starts to like it or should I just give up and toss it to he just doesn't like frisbee? I have periodically played frisbee for the past year! (may be 1-2 times a month) and in that time his attitude with it has not changed... I have also tried different types of Frisbees soft, plastic, rubber etc. What should I do?
  8. I think $1300 is a bit and I mean a bit on the high side... Depends what it includes.. Do u have a list of what that estimate includes? For a surgery like this depending how short they need to go, can become very involved...
  9. When I started our agility classes our instructor used turkey meat balls.. A lot of work I know but it worked well because even the smallest crumble acted as a treat trail... Something that crumbled worked good for us as long as I didn't leave too much of it in one spot... I suppose this would only work for platforms or the A frame.... But he did need something REALLY tempting for his agility training... Weird but he wasnt as motivated with his normal treats (turkey dog, apples) which he usually goes crazy for when doing obedience...
  10. Nice job! That's an awesome accomplishment! Suggestions for fronts etc... I think I need to ask you for advice! 1st place 4 times sure sounds to me his fronts must be practically flawless! :0) Congrats!
  11. Aww thank you for the clarification! :0) I will post picks soon of lynus... Thanks guys!
  12. Hello everyone! Gosh it's been so long since I've been able to stop by! Anywho reading some of the posts I have a question... What's a troll? :0) So an update on my lynus and I... We finally found a herding trainer and have started our classes! So much fun that's all I can say! Granted we have had only 1 class so far (lol!) if I could live on a farm and do this 24-7 I'd be in heaven! We also achieved our obedience CD title! ( I know how everyone feels about AKC but it's an enjoyable event for my lynus and I and winning a title sort of gives me a good feeling of accomplishment) :0) Hopefully by my next post well have our HT (again AKC I know but being a city girl sometimes this may be your only option) :0) Well I hope everyone had a great holiday and I hope to read all ya around more often!
  13. Thanks for the link.... straight to the point info.... im gonna have to read more of this..

  15. So today at work a family walked in to our hospital with what i thought was a border collie but the owners swore it was an australian shep... hmm.. ok whatever. This dog was soooo high strung, full of top notch anxiety. as the dog was pulling barking whining running back and forth tried to attack the house mate dog panting like no tomorrow. When he was taken from the owners to have his temp taken the poor dogs temp was 104.9! we waited about 10 minutes as he sat very nicely on the table away from the owners and retaking the temp it dropped right down to 102. I talked a little to the owners while they waited and asked if they had ever considered sports or formal training for the pet and tried to explain a little about anxiety. The owners response was... well we take him to the park and let him off leash and he just ruuuunnnnssss for an hour. all this whining he does, hes just talking to us, hes very talkative and he just really hates other dogs thats all. THAT'S ALL??? i thought in my head. after they left still the dog whining, barking and pulling the lobby was now peacefully quiet. I felt so bad for that dog. just to think whats going on in this dogs mind. being full of anxiety like that geez to me it seemed like a lifetime of torture for the poor dog... made me so mad. Why do people get a dog of a certain breed and they just dont know jack Sh@#t of what they need. other than food, shots and letting him rum free for 1 hour. so sorry just really had to vent on this one..... urrgghh
  16. My Vet (also my work place) somewhat scolded me on raw food and every vet i know is totally against it, but my dog LOVES the raw... so i have tried Honest Kitchen Force. He loves it just as much.... I really do not plan to feed raw 100% for his diet and kibble alone is very boring for him so I assume feeding the dehydrated food with kibble might be a little better for his digestion? opinions? Thanks!
  17. Well it was confirmed my dog has salmonella. He is doing ok, just occasional soft stool but i sent some feces in for a diarrhea panel and sure enough positive for salmonella... sux. He does eat some raw for dinner mixed with kibble, he eats primal raw nuggets with his orijen. Im still in denial that he got it from the raw, but i have no defense. Just thought id let anyone know in case you feed primal too.
  18. Forgot a question: is coconut oil or flakes etc. fattening? Im thinking of trying this and for my cats but everyone one of them can not afford to gain 1 pound (as well as the owner! )
  19. do you have any links that i can read more up on this? how much would you put in the food? my dog is 40-45#. He also has been going through on and off diarrhea (all lab test normal/negative). He randomly gets it sometimes from a bully stick or sometimes from a treat. even though he always eats them. Thanks!!!
  20. give us a pic of his teeth... all the way to the molars, from the side. Maybe we can make a short game out of this!
  21. I am not a Vet either but I strongly agree with this... you really do not want to use Metronidazole so freely. Fast Balance will work as a probiotic you can also try RX Clay by RX Vitamins. your Vet might be more willing to give you something like that.
  22. Thanks guys for the links! i usually like crates too but i have a smaller car that a crate will not fit in. I will look into these! Thank you!
  23. So excited to start agility class in 2 weeks!

  24. Anyone have recommendations on a good seat belt for my Lynus? Thanks!
